Monday, the fifth day on the biggest computer exhibition of the world. The weather is irrelevant since we are in hall 1 all day anyway. So far there is no sign that the exhibition lasts only for two more days. Quiet the contrary, the attendance is still rising. Today a simmilar procedure took place like the last days: No desktop systems in sight and even barebones we could not find. Again everything is jammed with notebooksd, pcocket PCs and portable audio and videoplayers. |

Intel is highly pleased about the success of the Centrino Mobiletechnology. Centrino has almost revolutionized the notebookworld and has a great share in the enormous growth of the notebooks in the last two years. Intel wants to invest in this segment even more and releases the new Sonoma platform with a new chipset with very good 3D graphic and fast CPS with even higher FSB. According to Intel more than 150 models from notebook manufacturers are equipped with the new Sonoma platform. As a result of Centrinos' success Intel wants to continue to offer Pentium M in a bundle with an own chipset with WLan modul, because this is the only way to guarantee full compatibility. Manufacturers can still chose to use other chipsets to meet special needs of the customers. Between summer and December the new Pentium M (Codename Yonah) in 65nm will be produced. They will be dual core and promise more computing power at the same power consumption. Concerning the mobility Intel shows some designstudies from a CarPC for a carradio-slot in a Mini Cooper Cabrio. Operations like Video, DVD, MP3, Radio, Emails, Internet, File manager etc. can be executed via a touch screen. Even on the backseat passengers have the option to handle this function. This concept is still the prototype, the costs will be between 2200-2500EUR. In that Mini Cooper was another sensation from Sony exhibited: The smallest PC of the world with a Pentium M. In the section of desktops there is the Pentium 4 6xx series that includes the improved Speed step Technology with reduced development of heat. At the Intel booth the new Pentium 4 D Extreme Edition was to be admired: the new Dual core desktop processor. Starting with summer the first models will be available. The Extreme Edition includes also Hyper threading. The CPU frequency we could readout while the press spokesman was outside for a minute was around 3,2GHz. The CineBench rendered the picture in four components what indicates four separated threads.

Tatung is one of the few manufacturers that have only Tablets in their program. The new Sonoma platform is used here, but the weight is quiet high (2,3kg). The tablet Edition from WindowsXP is consistently convincing and recognizes handwriting really well. Additional Tantung has a row of Mp3 and video player to offer. Extraordinarily cool was the MediaCenter PC in Hi-Fi format that runs with a 3,2Ghz CPU.

With exception of the Ultra Subnotebooks JVC has no other great models to available. The subnotebooks were updated to the new Sonoma platform while some are equipped with glare type displays. The quality is very high but the prices starts from 2500EUR.

Yakumo ist he trademakr of the PC wholesale dealer ADAN Riesig. The sortiment includes some very favourable notebooks with Intel Pentium M or the new AMD Turion 64. Very interesting is a complete series of new Pocket Pcs and GPS receivers. For about 700EUR the customers acquire a Smartphone with WindowsXP Pocket Edition, a bluetooth GPS mouse and a steetmap of whole Europe which alone costest usually about 400EUR. Also in the field of entertainment portable video players where presented.

This Austrian company became famous this year with their own notebookseries that became especially popular because of the favorable prices in trade chains like Aldi and Hofer. Unfortunately many failures brought Gericom a bad reputation. Gericom is highly concerened to eliminate such failures and sort out the old modles and bring to market new versions with Pentium M and AMD Turion64. Gericom is also working on the design of their products. Subnotebooks are not available.

Sony is he dominating exhibitor in Hall 1. On an immense platform Sony presents almost a complete product range of entertainmentelectronic, even including the Playstation 2, unfortunately without PSP. Just as on every CeBIT we met the notorious Sony Aibo the multifunktional pet..., as Sony referes to their doglike robot. There were many notebooks to see on the platform, from simple notebooks via DTR's and subnotebooks to designerpices. As for instance a notebook in a special colour combination, combined with a designerbag and this combi Sony only produced 25 pieces for the german market, where as only the exhibit is still availabel – for 2300EUR incl. the bag. All in all Sony is offering more thin & light notebooks than heavy units over 3kg. They even have a model that is at the font only 3mm high. Besides that LCD-TV apparatus in all displaysizes or complete MediaCenter PC's with officefunctions were dominating.
