Tuesday, the sixth day in in the exhibition halls of the CeBIT. For the first time of your stay in Hanover the sun was shining for more than a few minutes. At the end of the day it became observable that the end is near – at least concerning the CeBIT 2005. In the last days we where not seeing to many innovations, but today we were visiting a real great PC company.

Suse has been overtaken by Novell some time ago. And yes, there are news. So more and more newbies or lets say Windows user for Linux or Suse according to a Suse assistant. The new Version 9.3 offers besides the updates further support for notebooks. Therefore the funktionable Version OpenOffice 2.0 is included in the package. Also an alternative to Skype, “Liphone 1.0“ will be part of the new version. (for this system a Windows client is available, too)

Panasonic is producing mainly notebooks for the industry so that simple notebooks or DTR’s will not be found in their booth. The most important product field is according to Parasonic entertainmentelectronic. In this category falls TVs DV cameras, music player etc. We have taken a look at the new notebooks and the really astonishing resolution of the HDTV LCD TV-apparatus.

Flybook is as well the company as their product name. A ultra portable notebook with 8.9” TFT and touchscreen. The 1.2kg light machine is equipped with a Transmeta Crusoe with 1 Ghz clockspeed. Besides 512 MB Ram that are build in the basic hardware there are special options like intergrated GSM/GPRS Modul, WLAN and Bluetooth. The graphic card is extraordinary wise: an ATI Mobile Radeon with 16 MB not shared memory. The price scale depending on the components ist 1400 to 2100 EUR.

Ibase is a manufacturer für industrial PC-hardware. Besides SBC's and 5.25”, 3.5", ETX Boards the manufaturer has also Mini-ITX mainboards in the program that are partly an alternative to the Via Epia series. iBase is already producing workable mainboards with 1Ghz C3 and CN400 Chipsets. On the platform they were presenting severl samplesystems, e.g. A “gaming console” by which the name is a little deceptive, since it is for the mounting in commercial gambling machines. In the case a P4 ITX mainboard with intg. ATI graphic is mounted. Just beside this was a CAR PC with analog and digital ins and outs just as a port for digital TFT displays. Pectra is doing the distribution for iBase products.

Besides mass memory (hard discs, DVD-drives)Toshiba produces notebooks. On the CeBIT some new notebook models were presented. Among them is the DTR the Qosmio. A desktop replacement with 17” widescreen TFT and special display, that allows reflex free TV application. Due to integrated TV receiver (so far analog, middle of the year also DVB-T) with remote and Instant-on funktion the unit can displace a Hi-Fi system in the bedroom or workplace. But even without external speakers the Qosmio doesn't sound like you would expect, because high qulity speakers from Harman Kardon were integrated in the casing. There were also some more new subnotebooks presented, partly with new functions, partly with tabletfunction.

A manufacturer famous from producing PC and notebooksystems is Fujitsu-Siemens Computers. So today they presented a new DTR(desktop replacement), the AMILO M4438 which can be accepted as a notebooks since the little hight and it's 4.1kg. A further news is the SCALEO C a multimedia PC in cube format. It is a only in the complete package obtainable barebone.
