Wednesday, march the 16th 2005. The last day of the Cebti this year. We strolled one more time through the exhibition halls and unfortunately some companies started to pack together at 11AM. But anyway, we have found some interesting things.

Hitachi presented in their exhibition booth only the currant hard discs. Some News were the 1 and 1,8 inch hard disc. A new Microdive is already in the planning process, the capacity will be raised to 16GB. For further information please visit the companies homepage on  Hitachi.

The area “Planet Reseller” is only interesting for specialist dealers. But since Acer has placed their one and only booth there it was obligatory for us to be their.. So by chance we discovered in the “digital lifestyle” area some products, that can not be found anywhere else on the public CeBIT.

Acer presents a new multimedia PC in HiFi Look & Style with chamfered front, display and function wheel. The PC has beside a relatively broad Instant On function also a unique administration program for videos, pictures and music. Acer was also following the trend this CeBIT: Notebooks. The news are a ultra portable Convertible with Centrino Technologie and 10.4" TFT. The weight is about one kilogram. To push the tablet market a little bit Acer presents also instantly another, but also bigger and heavier Convertible. The price is really favorable with its 999EUR – since the Notebook has a 14" TFT with pen recognition and a Pentium M with 1.5Ghz. A manufacturer with a little different Barebones is Foxconn. The Cases are mostly one or multicolored. The form is rather hard to describe. Silverstone is the manufacturer for different PC-cases. Most cases are built in HTPC and Hfif style. Besides cases for normal ATX and Micro ATX main boards Silverstone has also cases for Mini-ITX Main boards and Via´s Nano-itx Mainboard in their program.Further information you will find on this link to the manufacturers website  Silverstone

The last CeBit day was somehow peculiar. Many pupils and students crowded the halls and from 14:00 the exhibition booths were about to be broken down quiet hectically. Many Taiwanese companies sold their products to interested visitors while serious companies packed their equipment for the shipment back to Taiwan.

All in all we have to admit that we have not seen lots of innovation this year. In the end the final bit was missing. After all we have seen many products so often that they are really nothing special to us anymore.

While last year Barebones were dominating the CeBIT, this year more Notebook were exhitited. The market of Mini-Barebones seems to shrink back and some manufacturers start even quitting this market. Desktop Replacements, big notebooks with 17" screen seem to become the great hit and might win the race against cute Barebones in the next years.

Another interesting tendency in the entertainment electronic: Almost no manufacturer dares not to present a MP3 or portable video player in their sentiment. This new generation of PMP (personal multimedia player) will enable us to carry our favorite movie, picture or music with us all the time.
