The CPU is a Transmeta Efficeon TM8600 processor. This CPU supports Transmetas "Enhanced LongRun Power Management Technology" which allows the CPU to adjust a hundred times a second the keying speed and the take-up according to the requirements. Because of that the CPU is highly effective with current consumption and temperature transfer which results significantly in lower wattage and lower system temperatures.
Running the voltage of the CPU balances between 0,8 (detected 0,83V in the Idle) and 1,25V (detected 1,22V by full load) which results in temperatures between 44°C to 65°C. The advantage is the concerted power consumption depending on the demand of the software at any point in time and the passive and absolute quiet cooling. According to rumours Transmeta will no longer produce processors themselves and seem to have sold the CPU section as well as the LongRun technology to a Chinese company. Sony, IBM and Toshiba seem to be interested in the LongRun technology and might include it in their new CPU Cell. Wait and see if Transmetas CPUs will be used in future at all.

Spectra Computer provided us a CPU cooler from Coolermaster. But the 40mm fan is really loud. The Bios features a Smart Fan function to slow down the rotational frequency which stays unaffected since the threshold of the temperature is to low. Because of the lacking Speedstep Technology the CPU runs all the time with maximum speed and becomes unnecessary hot. In the Bios category "CPU feature" one can set the CPU speed down to 600Mhz when the temperature gets to hot. Which temperature should be maintained is not mentioned in the manual.

About the Ali chipset any kind of information is missing. Searching in Google leads only to the website of the MB869 mainboard or to Transmetas CPU. The Ali M1563M is not even presented on Ali's homepage. It seems to be only available in a bundle with the Transmeta CPUs. Sharp has subnotebook's with a Ali chipset and a Transmeta CPU to offer -which leads us to the conclusion that this chipset is optimized for mobile usage. This assumption was affirmed as we visited Uli's (former Ali's) booth at the CeBIT. Together with the Ali chipset the mainboard is equipped with a Radeon 7500 graphic chipset.
